Big, bigger, biggest: The most impressive luxury yachts in the world
Among the rich an famous, it is an imposing status symbol: the luxury yacht. We show you some of the largest and most expensive private yachts.
Currently, the “Azzam” of the Saudi prince al-Walid ibn Talal Al Saud is the biggest privately owned yacht in the world. Since it is 17 meters longer than Roman Abramovich’s “Eclipse”, he dethroned the Russian oligarch, who had the largest private yacht until then. Little is known about the luxurious interior of the “Azzam”, only that the Frenchman Christophe Leoni designed the yacht in the Empire style. The prince spent around 490 million euros for his new luxurious vehicle, about 150 million more than Abramovich had to pay for his “Eclipse”.
Both super yachts were built in German shipyards, Abramowitsch’s yacht at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg and the Saudi prince’s yacht by Lürssen in Bremen. By the way, Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid al Maktum’s “Dubai” comes third in the ranking of the largest luxury yachts. The only drop of bitterness regarding the prince’s “Azzam” is that due to its size it cannot moor in every harbor. However, the hotspots of the super-rich, such as Monaco or Puerto Portals in Mallorca, have enough space for the largest yacht in the world.
